Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport
Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (Romanian: Aeroportul Internațional Henri Coandă București) (IATA: OTP, ICAO: LROP), also known as Bucharest Otopeni Airport, is Romania's busiest international airport, located in Otopeni, 16.5 km (10.3 mi) north of Bucharest's city centre. In 2025, the airport handled over 17 million passengers. It covers 605 hectares (1,490 acres) of land and contains two parallel runways, both 3,500 metres (11,500 ft) long. It is one of the two airports serving the capital of Romania, the other being the smaller Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu Airport, located within the city. Originally intended as a civil aviation and military training centre, the airfield was used as a military base during World War II and remained a major military airfield until 1965, when its conversion into a commercial airport began. It opened to civilian traffic in 1969, with a new passenger terminal opening in April 1970. In 2004, the airport was renamed after Romanian flight pioneer Henri Coandă (1886–1972), builder of the Coandă-1910 aircraft and discoverer of the Coandă effect of fluidics. Henri Coandă International Airport serves as headquarters and a hub for TAROM, Romania's flag carrier, as well as a hub for HiSky. It also serves as a base of operations for several other airlines, including Animawings, FlyOne, Ryanair and Wizz Air. It is managed by the National Company Bucharest Airports (Compania Națională Aeroporturi București S.A.). The military section of the airport is used as the 90th Airlift Base of the Romanian Air Force.
